Three people were killed and four were critically injured after a bridge in Mississippi collapsed during demolition. The incident occurred on State Route 149 over the Strong River.
Terry Tutor, the Simpson County coroner, reported that seven workers were present when the bridge fell, plummeting nearly 40 feet. Emergency responders recovered the remains of two victims as they worked to find the third.
Sheriff Paul Mullins stated that the four injured individuals are in critical condition, while the cause of the bridge collapse remains unclear as authorities investigate.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation indicated that the bridge has been closed since September 18 for a replacement project, with the contractor active in demolishing the structure at the collapse.
