2 18-year-olds flown to hospitals after head-on crash on Cape Cod

Three people were in serious condition after a head-on collision on Route 6 in Wellfleet near Shepley Wood Products at 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 2. A BMW crossover sedan crossed the double yellow lines and struck an eastbound Audi. The Audi driver, an 18-year-old from Orleans, and his 18-year-old passenger from Wellfleet were airlifted to Boston hospitals in serious condition. The BMW passenger, a 73-year-old Eastham man, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries. The BMW driver, 60-year-old Carlos Ibarguen of Eastham, was uninjured and charged with negligent operation, a marked lanes violation, and operating outside a license restriction for not wearing required glasses. The passenger of the BMW, a 73-year-old Eastham man, was transported by the Wellfleet Fire Department to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries, police reported. The driver of the BMW was identified as Carlos Ibarguen, 60, of Eastham, and was not injured, police say. Ibarguen was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation, and operating a vehicle outside of a license restriction as he was not wearing his glasses, Wellfleet Police say.
