12-year-old suspected of starting two fires in Marblehead church

Two small fires occurred at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Atlantic Avenue on Sept. 21 and Sept. 28. Each fire was quickly extinguished and caused no permanent damage. After the first incident, officials suspected intentional ignition. State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal's Office assisted in the investigation of the second fire, which was found in a bathroom at about 11:42 a.m. on Sunday. A 12-year-old is the sole suspect; no further information will be released. The incidents are described as isolated and present no identifiable threat to the community or parishioners. Church staff and emergency responders aided the investigation.
