World Leaders Scramble as New Wave of Trump Tariffs Set to Kick in at Midnight
Briefly

As the U.S. prepares to implement significant new tariffs, including a 104% tax on Chinese imports, world leaders are racing to grasp Trump's unpredictable tariff strategy. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer highlighted that nearly 50 countries have sought exemptions. While some nations, like Argentina and Vietnam, are willing to reduce their own tariffs, Trump’s administration is firm on blanket tariffs. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump is open to case-by-case negotiations but not cutting across-the-board tariffs, emphasizing the potential for tailored deals related to broader U.S. foreign policy objectives.
Trump has a spine of steel. He will not break. America will not break under his leadership, Leavitt said.
All options are on the table for each country but again these are going to be tailor-made deals, Leavitt said.
Leavitt confirmed that Trump insists on putting himself at the center of the negotiations, and is willing to consider offers unrelated to trade in exchange for reducing U.S. tariffs.
During his visit to the Oval Office on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered to remove Israel's trade barriers.
