Trump's major global tariffs have 'no exemptions at this time,' WH says
Briefly

President Trump is set to implement reciprocal tariffs on all nations starting April 2, with White House press secretary Leavitt confirming no exemptions. Dubbed "Liberation Day" for US trade by Trump, these tariffs include a 25% levy on auto imports. The targeted nations include several with perceived unfair trade practices. Trump clarified that all countries would be affected simultaneously, despite earlier indications that only 10-15 nations would be prioritized. A formal announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, signaling a pivotal moment for US trade policy.
President Trump has dubbed the event "Liberation Day" for US trade and said he will roll out the import levies on "all countries".
Leavitt told reporters there were no "exemptions" for the still-unnamed countries, just two days before the tariffs are set to kick in and industries are bracing for market impact.
The goal of Wednesday is country-based tariffs but certainly sectoral tariffs, the president has said he's committed to implementing them.
The Office of the US Trade Representative Office has released a list of nations with unfair trade practices, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, and China.
