President-elect Donald J. Trump expressed plans to replace the head of the National Archives due to concerns raised about his handling of classified documents.
In a phone interview, Trump indicated that the issue with the National Archives arose from the previous archivist's animosity towards him, which he dismissed with laughter.
Colleen Shogan, the current national archivist, took her position in May 2023 and reportedly was not involved in the investigations concerning Trump's documents.
Concerns about Trump's handling of classified documents were initially raised by the National Archives, which alerted the Justice Department after discovering boxes taken to Mar-a-Lago.
