At a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Trump justified closing the Department of Education by asserting the need for states to control education spending and outcomes: "School choice is a very big deal. A lot of people don't know that, but it's a big deal. It'll be great... we spend more money per pupil than any other nation in the world by far, and yet we're ranked at the bottom of every list."
Trump also reflected on his outreach to Black voters, stating that they are "being hurt very badly by the people pouring into our country, our African American population... you're last on crime, you're being devastated with inflation more than anybody else."
