Trump returned from a high-stakes trip to Beijing, where he met with China’s President Xi Jinping amid pageantry and secrecy. On the flight home aboard Air Force One, Trump answered questions for nearly half an hour. When David Sanger pressed him about the Iran nuclear deal and the bombing campaign, Trump responded aggressively. He claimed he achieved a total military victory, saying forces were knocked out across naval, air, anti-aircraft, radar, and leadership targets. He accused Sanger and outlets including The New York Times and CNN of writing incorrectly and spreading “fake news.” He also characterized the reporting as treasonous and said Sanger should be ashamed.
