The evening had begun with promise. Doreen Hogans, 50, arrived at Kamala Harris's election night watch party at Howard University on Tuesday evening filled with cautious optimism. Having brought a string of pearls that belonged to her late mother, she reflected on how proud her mother would have been to see the nation's first female and first Black female vice-president on the cusp of history.
As the evening wore on, Cedric Richmond, Harris's campaign co-chair, addressed the dispersing crowd and attempted to instill a sense of hope. He emphasized that they were still waiting on more votes to be counted and states yet to be called. 'We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet,' he remarked, assuring supporters that efforts would continue overnight to ensure every vote was counted.
