Parents and children set to be big Budget winners as new supports for families planned

Welfare supports for families and reducing the cost of education will be central to the Coalition's final budget before the general election.

Mr. Harris believes a double Child Benefit payment for all parents will be part of the cost-of-living package, though an increase in the monthly rate remains undecided.

The Taoiseach wants to see free school books for all students expanded to include Leaving Cert, as the current scheme only covers up to Junior Cert level.

Both leaders emphasized enhancing financial supports for families on lower incomes, including working on a second rate of Child Benefit for disadvantaged families.
