You could argue that the Republicans are exploiting this catastrophe for political means, but the Dems were exploiting this, this whole exercise for political optics.
The timing of that, obviously with an election coming out, makes it quite clear that they want Donald Trump to look like the good foreign policy guy.
Trump bears some responsibility for this, not all of the responsibility, but some responsibility because of the February 2020 negotiations that ended up releasing 5,000 Taliban prisoners.
