Senator Conway resigned from the party whip as he faces scrutiny following his arrest for public intoxication and previous allegations of inappropriate conduct towards a party staffer. A joint letter from several TDs expressed grave concerns about Conway's behavior, calling for transparency regarding a payment of ten thousand euros related to an earlier incident. Fine Gael's internal strife is evident as questions arise about party leadership's handling of the situation, especially concerning the protection of vulnerable staff. The Tánaiste has been urged to address these pressing concerns in the Dáil.
You are aware of the very serious concerns around the behaviour of Senator Conway, reads a joint letter from TD Louise O'Reilly as well as Senators Pauline Tully, Maria McCormack, Joanne Collins and Nicole Ryan.
It is of particular concern that Senator Conway allegedly acted inappropriately with a member of Oireachtas party political staff, the letter says while alleging that a sum of ten thousand euros was paid out in respect of this incident.
Questions must be asked as to why this money was paid out, to whom it was paid and what was the purpose of making such a payment.
There are many questions to be answered and it is necessary that as Tánaiste and Fine Gael leader that you come before the Dáil this week and make a full statement and take questions on these matters.
