Ashley Moody, a fifth-generation Floridian and former circuit court judge, was chosen for her alignment with DeSantis's values and commitment to the new administration's policies.
Despite interest from various members of Congress, DeSantis opted for Moody, concerned about leaving House Republicans with a slim majority.
With outline plans for the future, Ms. Moody is set to serve until 2026 when a new election will be held for the seat.
