Asylum-seekers to be asked to contribute financially for supports under new government plans

Taoiseach Simon Harris stated, "We will, in the coming weeks, consider further changes to the supports available to those seeking asylum in this country," indicating a possible overhaul of the asylum process.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee emphasized the need for discussion among government parties before revealing specifics, stating, "We are here to make sure that we can work together to have the right structures, the right policies..."

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys expressed skepticism about further cuts for migrants, noting, "We have already made a number of reductions for Ukrainian refugees and brought in a means test for asylum-seekers."
