Despite the appeals court order, the specific sections of Mr. Smith's two-volume report remain under an injunction from a lower-court judge, who is temporarily blocking their release, with the injunction set to expire in just three days.
The Justice Department has expressed intent to release the report detailing the Washington case against Mr. Trump concerning alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, pending resolution of the existing injunction.
With the injunction from Judge Aileen M. Cannon lasting only three days, Attorney General Merrick B. Garland may proceed with plans to release the portion of the report related to election interference once the injunction lapses.
