"As ever, my focus remains on serving the communities of North East Hertfordshire and contributing to Labour's historic mission to create a society that puts people and nature before profit."
"I've been part of the Labour and trade union movement for 40 years, so I'm pleased to have had the Labour whip restored today."
"Therefore, we have to deal with people who repeatedly break the whip."
Four Labour MPs — Chris Hinchliff (North East Hertfordshire), Neil Duncan-Jordan (Poole), Brian Leishman (Alloa and Grangemouth) and Rachael Maskell (York Central) — had the Labour whip restored after being suspended for voting against the Welfare Reform Bill in July. The group was among 47 Labour MPs who rebelled to force ministers to water down proposed welfare cuts. Restoration followed discussions with chief whip Jonathan Reynolds. The earlier rebellion weakened Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's authority after a series of policy reversals. The reinstated MPs said they will continue serving constituents and upholding Labour values.
