Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced a major increase in police use of facial recognition for surveillance, expanding the fleet from 10 live vans to more than 50 nationwide. The Home Office's procurement agency, Blue Light Commercial, confirmed that Israeli-based Corsight AI was subcontracted by UK firm Digital Barriers to supply the artificial intelligence facial recognition software as part of a £20 million roll-out following a six-month Essex trial. Corsight's software appears to have been deployed in Gaza, where Israeli forces have used it to track, trace and abduct Palestinian civilians at checkpoints, prompting civil liberties and accuracy concerns.
