UK department of culture faces cuts following government spending review

The UK's DCMS faces a real-term funding cut of 1.4% from 2025 to 2028 according to the recent spending review. While capital spending remains at £700 million annually, resource spending will see a nominal increase from £1.5 billion to £2 billion by 2028. However, adjusted for inflation, this results in a 2.8% cut for capital and a 1.2% cut for resource spending. The chair of the parliamentary Culture Committee, Caroline Dinenage, expressed concerns about how these cuts will impact the culture, media, and sport sectors. Additionally, a new National Youth Strategy is set to be published, unlocking £132.5 million of dormant assets for youth support.
