Ofgem has launched a compensation scheme for thousands of energy customers who had prepayment meters installed involuntarily. Following a review that highlighted the issue of vulnerable customers being forced into these systems, eight energy suppliers, including Scottish Power and E.ON, have agreed to provide compensation totaling £5.6 million to around 40,000 affected customers. In addition, the suppliers will also write off £13 million of energy debt for those impacted during the period from January 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023. This initiative aims to support vulnerable customers and ensure they receive fair treatment from energy companies.
