Starmer ignored nuclear watchdog when he blamed regulations for delays
Briefly

Keir Starmer's announcement of a nuclear power revival was challenged by the UK's Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), which stated that blaming regulations for delays in reactor construction was inaccurate. Prior to the unveiling of the nuclear renaissance strategy, ONR provided corrections to the government's statements about Hinkley Point C that were ignored. Despite its recommendations, regulations were incorrectly presented as a barrier to investment, reflecting Labour's effort to enhance its pro-growth image by distorting the reality of nuclear regulatory impact.
Our feeling is that linking regulatory factors into the increasing Hinkley Point C costs and timeframes isn't true and the sentence doesn't stand up.
ONR told the government in the run-up to the launch that claims about delays to nuclear power in a draft press release were not true.
