Siblings face eviction after mother's sudden death
"fairness and compassion"
"emotional and community anchor"
"It's so close to Christmas,"
"They haven't actually shown us proof of the earlier succession,"
Joanne Thompson, 44, and her brother Calvin Gray, 55, may be evicted from their Hackney Linzell Estate flat where they have lived since 1978 after their mother died. Their late mother's tenancy had been transferred from their father more than 30 years ago, and succession rules in England and Wales allow only one succession. Hackney Council says it is assessing eligibility for another council property and has been in close contact to explain the rules. The council plans to end the tenancy on 21 December, giving the family 28 days to leave. The family have experienced bereavement, a delayed burial and job loss while seeking written clarity and possible discretionary rehousing.
