Reform UK will retain the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) if it wins the next general election, and will reform the watchdog rather than abolish it. Robert Jenrick will endorse the OBR and pledge to maintain the independence of the Bank of England in his first speech as the party's economic spokesman. Nigel Farage had earlier questioned the need for the OBR and accused it of effectively dictating policy to elected politicians. Reform UK plans to reassure markets by promising fiscal discipline and modifying the OBR while moving away from previously stated large tax-cut commitments.
