"Andrew, 65, stepped down from public life in 2019, but denied wrongdoing. In a statement Friday he said that with His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."
Prince Andrew announced he is giving up the Duke of York title and other honours, citing that continued accusations distract from the work of the monarch and royal family. The decision follows publication of excerpts from a posthumous memoir by Virginia Roberts Giufffre alleging she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and had sex with Andrew when she was 17. Andrew, who stepped back from public duties in 2019, denied wrongdoing and said with His Majesty's agreement he must go further by no longer using his title or honours. Giuffre died by suicide in April; she sued Andrew in 2021 and the pair settled in 2022.
