"This was a disgraceful act of vandalism designed to stoke division and intolerance,"
"There is nothing to fear from the Irish language, or indeed from equality."
"The rights of Irish language speakers must be respected."
A white sign to Shandon Park had its Irish-language text cut away with an angle grinder at about 8.15pm on Saturday. Sinn Féin councillor Pádraig Donnelly condemned the damage as a disgraceful act of vandalism meant to stoke division and intolerance. The councillor emphasized that there is nothing to fear from the Irish language or from equality and said the rights of Irish language speakers must be respected. The PSNI confirmed the incident and asked anyone with information to contact police on 101 quoting 129811/10/25, via the online non-emergency form, or through Crimestoppers.
