Surrey police have concluded an investigation into allegations of rape against Crispin Blunt, a former Conservative MP, citing insufficient evidence. Blunt, 64, was arrested in October 2023 following anonymous reports and suspended from the Conservative Party. Despite dropping the rape allegations, police continue to investigate the suspicion of possession of controlled substances. Blunt, who served as MP for Reigate since 1997 and has military experience, did not stand for re-election in 2024. His conditional bail ended in April 2024 after extensive inquiries yielded no actionable evidence against him or another man arrested alongside him.
Surrey police confirmed on Thursday there was insufficient evidence to proceed with an investigation into a man in his 60s, after extensive inquiries were carried out.
An investigation was launched following a report of rape in October 2023. Extensive inquiries have been carried out and a man in his 60s and a man in his 50s were arrested on 25 October 2023 in Horley.
