"Asked by the claimants' lawyer Max Hill, whether he would speak about his involvement in the IRA if there was a truth and reconciliation process focused on the Troubles, Adams responded: 'I can't talk about my involvement in the IRA because I was never involved.'"
"The 77-year-old has long faced allegations of also being a member of the Provisional IRA, the military wing of the movement, including former members of the group. He has always denied the claims though."
"They are seeking a finding on the balance of probabilities that Adams is personally liable for the bombings as a senior member of the IRA and later its powerful Army Council."
Gerry Adams, prominent Republican politician and Sinn Féin leader, testified in London's High Court on Tuesday facing accusations from bombing victims seeking to establish his personal liability for IRA attacks. Three claimants injured in bombings at London's Old Bailey in 1973 and in Manchester and London in 1996 are pursuing civil cases against Adams. They argue he bears responsibility as a senior IRA member and Army Council participant. Adams consistently denied ever being involved in the Provisional IRA's military operations, despite decades of allegations from former members and victims. He played a key role in negotiating the 1998 Good Friday Accord, which ended the Troubles.
