"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"Nigel Farage has been ordered to pay more than 10,000 to the original founder of the Brexit Party. Catherine Blaiklock had brought legal proceedings after she claims she was forced out of control of the party ahead of the 2019 European elections. The county court in Plymouth awarded judgement in default after Mr Farage failed to respond to papers sent against him. The court awarded the maximum 9,999 in compensation plus 455 costs."
"Ms Blaiklock told The Independent the papers were served to Reform's head office in London. However, a spokesperson at Reform said the party and Mr Farage had not been aware of the claim and not received any papers. Nigel Farage will be instructing his lawyers to appeal against the judgement today, the spokesperson said on Monday."
The Independent requests donations to fund on-the-ground reporting across reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech while keeping journalism free from paywalls. The outlet cites investigations into Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC and a documentary highlighting American women fighting for reproductive rights as examples of its reporting. Catherine Blaiklock, who initially registered the Brexit Party name and served as Ukip's economy spokesperson, brought legal proceedings claiming she was forced out before the 2019 European elections. A Plymouth county court awarded judgment in default after Nigel Farage did not respond to papers, ordering maximum compensation plus costs. Reform says it had not received the claim; Farage will appeal.
