MSP denies hiding camera in Scottish Parliament toilet
"The speculation, and recent decision by the police to release publicly details of their ongoing inquiries along with my home address has been devastating and has taken a serious toll on my health. After my address was published, I felt I had no choice but to move away to protect my family."
""fully co-operating""
""an utter shock""
Colin Smyth, a 52-year-old South Scotland MSP, has been barred from entering the Scottish Parliament after police investigated an allegation of a hidden camera in a toilet. Smyth was suspended by Labour earlier this month over a separate charge of possessing indecent images of children and was arrested in Dumfries on 5 August. Police Scotland searched Holyrood toilets and changing rooms and reported finding no covert recording devices. Smyth said he is fully co-operating with officers, that publication of investigation details and his home address devastated his family, and that he moved home to protect his wife and two daughters. The parliament revoked his building access and emphasised staff safety and welfare.
