In a historic move, cabinet ministers and over 70 parliamentarians demonstrated solidarity with two MPs detained by Israeli authorities. The MPs, Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed, had received travel clearance but were barred from entry, sparking outrage over perceived censorship. Statements from the MPs highlighted the legitimacy of their political opinions and criticized the actions taken by Israel. The UK government was reported to have intervened at high levels, indicating the situation had raised significant diplomatic concerns. The MPs expressed their desires for peace and a two-state solution, emphasizing the importance of political dialogue.
This was not about security, this was about control and censorship... both were given clearance for entrance by Israeli before travelling.
If my experience has proved anything, it is that what we say in this chamber matters.
I did not anticipate the risks of detention and deportation by a British ally... I desperately want to see a two-state solution.
The treatment is unacceptable and deeply concerning... UK government had made that clear at the highest level in Israel.
