MP Mike Amesbury has been charged with assault after a video surfaced showing him appearing to punch a man to the ground in Frodsham.
The charge against the 55-year-old Labour backbencher follows an incident reported to have occurred on Main Street in Cheshire at around 02:48 BST.
The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the charge, which relates to an assault on a 45-year-old man that took place on October 26.
A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed that Amesbury has been summoned to court, although the date and venue for his appearance remain unconfirmed.
