Lincoln MP Hamish Falconer has expressed strong support for the continuation of the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force's iconic aerobatic team, with a history of nearly 5,000 displays across 57 nations since 1964. Despite the operational costs of approximately £80,000 per day and an announcement indicating the Hawks' retirement by March 2030, Falconer is in discussions with the Ministry of Defence regarding new aircraft plans. He highlights the importance of the Red Arrows in representing British excellence and their unique status among global aerobatic teams.
I'm totally committed to [the Red Arrows] and have taken this up with the Ministry of Defence. They assure me of their total commitment to the Red Arrows and they will set out [plans for] the new planes shortly.
A decision on the production, sustainment and replacement of the aircraft will not be taken until after the strategic defence review is completed.
They have a huge value, there aren't that many aerial acrobatic teams in the world. It's about demonstrating British excellence and driving that through the British armed forces.
I think the Red Arrows are more than worth it.
