MoD investigates air crew cancers after helicopter claims
Briefly

An investigation is underway regarding military personnel diagnosed with cancer, particularly those exposed to toxic fumes from helicopters. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has already settled six cases and is facing dozens more lawsuits from affected aircrew and families. Allegations suggest officials were aware of safety concerns since 1999 but did not inform aircrew or implement adequate safety measures. The MoD acknowledges the increased risk of exhaust fumes in certain aircraft designs and is currently testing helicopter emissions, while acknowledging the complexities in evaluating veterans' health records for an accurate assessment.
At least six cases have already been settled out of court by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), with dozens of other air crew and families understood to be in the process of suing.
The MoD has confirmed it is now carrying out work to determine the number of armed forces personnel who have served as air crew and been diagnosed with cancer.
