The government acknowledges a significant increase in migrant crossings, with nearly 1,000 arriving in one day and projections of 20,000 to 50,000 yearly. Concerns have been raised about the effectiveness of current policies, as criminals continue to operate freely. The Home Office emphasizes the importance of ending dangerous boat crossings and the need to disrupt people-smuggling gangs. A comprehensive plan is in place to enhance international collaborations, enforce tougher laws, and secure the borders more effectively against rising threats from criminal networks.
The people-smuggling gangs do not care if the vulnerable people they exploit live or die, as long as they pay and we will stop at nothing to dismantle their business models and bring them to justice.
