Met Police staff to strike for six more days amid pay dispute
"Metropolitan Police staff are set to walk out for six more days this month in an ongoing dispute over pay. Around 175 members of the Unite trade union are expected to strike, including call handlers, technicians and office staff who help service and dispatch police vehicles. According to Unite, staff had been offered "an inferior pay increase" compared to the 4.2 per cent increase that other staff and officers in UK police forces had been given."
"Keith Henderson, Unite regional officer, described the first strike on New Year's Eve, which ran for 25 hours, as "hugely successful and disruptive". He said: "The force will hugely struggle to cope with several days' worth of action, but the Met must revise its pay offer to one acceptable to our members to prevent this from happening." The Met maintained that it aimed to minimise the impact of the strike by backfilling crucial staff roles with officers,"
Around 175 Metropolitan Police staff, including call handlers, technicians and office staff, will strike from 19 to 24 January in a pay dispute. Unite says staff were offered an inferior pay increase compared with the 4.2% rise given to officers and other police staff. Two provisional offers were rejected: a below-RPI 3.8% increase or a 4.2% rise conditional on workers relinquishing their current conditions. The New Year’s Eve 25-hour strike reportedly caused delays in call-outs. The Met plans to backfill roles with officers but warns insufficient resources in 999 centres and custody suites could risk the public.
