The payment is reported as three months' salary and is under review by the Foreign Office. Mandelson resigned as Washington ambassador after revelations about his relationship with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and announced plans to stand down from the House of Lords after further documents showed a closer relationship. The Foreign Office said his civil service employment was terminated according to legal advice and terms of employment. McFadden said he was dismayed by emails showing Mandelson passing sensitive government information to Epstein.
