Man arrested at Epping protest following 'assault' near hotel

Essex Police made the arrest at another protest outside The Bell Hotel in High Road today (July 17). The man will be taken into custody after he was detained on suspicion of affray following reports of an assault near the pub on July 13.
The recent demonstrations are ongoing, with protestors present again this afternoon (July 17). It is understood that the protests are linked to immigration and the current use of The Bell Hotel to accommodate asylum seekers.
Essex Police have reported: "Our officers have been at a planned protest in Epping throughout the afternoon today, and are now aware of some protestors using fireworks and eggs in the crowds."
Chf Supt Simon Anslow said: Disruption and offending is never an appropriate response, no matter the strength of feeling in this case, and on this issue.
