Defence Minister Alistair Carns warned that the British army could face severe depletion within six months if engaged in a large-scale conflict like Ukraine.
Carns highlighted the intense casualty rates of Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, emphasizing that the UK's military must be able to generate mass and depth rapidly.
He stated, 'Without reservists, we cannot generate mass, we cannot meet the plethora of defence tasks and challenges, and we cannot seamlessly integrate experts into the armed forces.'
Carns called the contemporary nature of warfare 'attritional' and argued that the UK must enhance its reserves to keep pace with NATO allies.
