Jonathan Reynolds corrects record' for referring to himself as ex-solicitor
Briefly

Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds recently corrected a misstatement made during a 2014 speech, where he inaccurately claimed to be a solicitor rather than clarifying he was a trainee. This correction came after scrutiny regarding his LinkedIn profile and accusations from shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick of criminal conduct related to his qualifications. The Solicitors Regulation Authority had previously investigated but decided not to take further action, prompting Reynolds to formally apologize and clarify his status to maintain transparency.
During a debate on high-speed rail, Reynolds stated he worked as a solicitor before changing careers, yet it was only during his training.
It is an offence for someone to call themselves a solicitor if they are not qualified and registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
The SRA wrote to Reynolds, the MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, after becoming aware that his LinkedIn profile inaccurately listed one of his jobs as solicitor.
Reynolds asserted that his previous speech was not about legal profession specifics and unintentionally misstated his qualifications.
