Transport Secretary Louise Haigh revealed she pleaded guilty to making a false report to police regarding her stolen mobile phone, claiming it was a genuine mistake.
In her explanation, Haigh recounted the terrifying experience of being mugged and how she reported what she believed was taken from her, including a work phone.
Haigh expressed regret for following her solicitor's advice to not comment during the police interview, which led to her guilty plea in magistrates' court.
The matter was serious enough for the police to refer it to the Crown Prosecution Service after discovering the phone had not actually been stolen.
