Andrew RT Davies, former leader of the Conservatives in the Welsh Parliament, has been warned that future breaches of parliamentary conduct could lead to sanctions after failing to declare his farming interests during inquiries about inheritance tax for farms. Although the Standards Committee decided against immediate action—citing relatively minor complaints—the report emphasized growing concerns over Davies' repeated infractions, marking this as his fourth breach since the 2021 election. Davies defended his actions by stating that his farming background is well-known, yet the standards commissioner found his failure to declare was deliberate, not an oversight.
Davies considered whether he was required to declare an interest and decided he did not. I find it most surprising that an experienced member could overlook this.
Repeated breaches, even of a minor nature, are a cause of concern for this committee and suggest a disregard for the decisions it makes.
