The Department for Works and Pensions activated Cold Weather Payments in 441 postcodes in response to freezing temperatures. Eligible households will receive a one-off payment of £25 to help with bills during the cold winter spell. A total of 674,000 households across those postcodes will receive payments after Met Office warnings for snow and ice. Combined with a Pension Credit take-up campaign and the Triple Lock commitment, the State Pension is set to increase by up to £2,100 over this Parliament to provide additional support for pensioners this winter.
