After the government's commitment to lift the mapping deadline for rights of way in England, historic paths may now have a chance to be saved. Walking campaigners have hailed this decision, highlighting the urgency of getting these paths officially recorded to prevent potential development or land use changes by private entities.
Kate Ashbrook, general secretary of the Open Spaces Society, emphasized the risks posed by unrecorded paths, stating, 'If paths are not recorded, developers might build on them or landowners might plant crops. We need to get those paths put on the map so we know where they are'.
