Lisa Nandy criticized the TV licence fee as "deeply regressive," emphasizing that proposals for BBC funding cannot involve general taxation due to potential political interference.
Nandy stated, "There's a whole range of alternatives, and we haven't committed to any of them... general taxation is not something that we're considering."
Highlighting the need for reform, Nandy said, "The licence fee is not only insufficient... it also is deeply regressive," disproportionately impacting lower income individuals.
Nandy noted, "we’ve seen far too many women prosecuted over recent years for being unable to pay it," pointing to the social injustice linked to the fee.
