Council faces legal bid over garden centre closure
"consider formally listing the FRAGC as an ACV in January and this has been published publicly on the council's forward plan"
"truly saddened that the Conservative-led council had so far chosen to ignore the ACV application."
"Now a cash-strapped council, begging the Labour government to bail out their financial mismanagement, will end up in court because they cannot meet statutory deadlines for processing an application for Asset of Community Value,"
A fundraiser has been launched to fund legal action against Hillingdon Council for failing to decide whether the Rural Activities Garden Centre should receive Asset of Community Value status. The FRAGC near Hayes was maintained by adults with learning disabilities, provided horticultural therapy, and sold plants to residents until it was closed in July 2025 due to running costs. Hillingdon Council said it would consider formally listing the FRAGC as an ACV in January and published this on its forward plan. FRAGC aims to raise £9,750 to support a judicial review and seek a mandatory order compelling a decision. An ACV gives local groups time to prepare a bid if the site is put up for sale.
