The Independent covers topics including reproductive rights, climate change, and Big Tech, and emphasizes on-the-ground reporting when stories develop. The outlet investigates financials such as Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC and produces documentaries like 'The A Word' about American women fighting for reproductive rights. The Independent argues for parsing facts from messaging and maintains free access by avoiding paywalls while asking for donations to fund field reporting. Jeremy Corbyn responded to Zarah Sultana's criticism that he capitulated on antisemitism during his Labour leadership. Sultana accused him of adopting the IHRA definition and triangulating on Brexit; both confirmed the launch of a new left-wing party and an autumn conference.

Jeremy Corbyn has hit back at Zarah Sultana after she accused him of capitulating over antisemitism when he was Labour leader as tensions at the top of their new left-wing party grow. The Islington MP said it was not really necessary for Ms Sultana, with whom he is currently co-leading the as-yet-unnamed party, to bring all that up. It came after Ms Sultana used an interview with the New Left Review to say Mr Corbyn as Labour leader capitulated to the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
