Coherent strategy needed to tackle racism | Letter
Briefly

The article highlights the disheartening implementation rate of racism-tackling recommendations in the UK, with only a third of 600 suggestions actually acted upon. It references historical efforts, such as the 2005 establishment of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the national benchmarking survey on prejudice. Recent research indicates that systematic surveys of social attitudes are critical for understanding and dismantling prejudice, which is exacerbated by factors like inequality and environmental challenges. Without a coordinated approach to address these issues, policymakers risk ineffective resolutions to racism.
That so few of the 600 recommendations to tackle racism have been implemented is all the more disappointing given that ways forward are well understood.
Unless there is a systematic approach and investment to address the processes of prejudice... policymakers will continue with the doom loop of despair.
