Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman has expressed skepticism about Sir Keir Starmer's ability to control UK borders, especially with Labour's commitment to remain part of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). This follows Starmer's warnings about the UK becoming an 'island of strangers' due to immigration. He pledges to ensure that immigration is 'controlled, selective, and fair' and will work towards making residency a privilege instead of a right. The rhetoric indicates a significant political debate surrounding the future implications of immigration policies in the UK.
I've heard too many empty promises to believe this time will be any different. More empty rhetoric from Labour. Without leaving the ECHR and scrapping the Human Rights legislation we are unable to take back control of our borders.
Starmer's invasion continues; [the] British taxpayer suffers even more.
This is a clean break from the past and will ensure settlement in this country is a privilege that must be earned, not a right.
Labour will recognize those who genuinely contribute to Britain's growth and society, while restoring common sense and control to our borders.
