Be careful what you feed your tortoise | Brief letters
"Rosemary Fletcher-Jones is quite right to be concerned about tortoises fed on a limited diet (Letters, 14 November), but fruit should be avoided or strictly limited for most species kept as pets. In addition, dandelions should only be part of a varied diet. I would direct tortoise owners to The Tortoise Table, a website that contains ample excellent advice as to how to feed them well. Martin Knight Fakenham, Norfolk"
"In the kids' quiz (15 November) the question Why is there nothing Welsh on the union jack? received the answer When the flag was created, Wales had been conquered by England for so long, they were considered as one. By England perhaps not by Cymru! Copland Smith Manchester"
"Is it any solace to those who needlessly lost their loved ones that in this report on the Covid debacle (Chaotic and indecisive': key findings of report on UK's Covid response under Tories, 20 November), Boris Johnson will now never be seen to have owned that Churchillian stature he so vainly tried to adopt? Robert John Saint-Pierre-des-Champs, France Every time Boris Johnson appears in relation to the Covid inquiry, I'm reminded of the Arkell v Pressdram case: Fuck off. Robin Le Mare Allithwaite, Cumbria"
Fruit should be avoided or strictly limited for most pet tortoise species. Dandelions should be included only as part of a varied diet. The Tortoise Table website provides detailed, practical feeding guidance for tortoise owners. A kids' quiz answered that Wales had been conquered by England for so long when the union jack was created that Wales was considered as one, provoking a correction that that applied to England rather than Cymru. Correspondents criticized Boris Johnson's pandemic leadership, stating he will never attain a Churchillian stature and invoking the Arkell v Pressdram phrase 'Fuck off'. A brief personal note mentions a relative who was a bank manager. Readers are invited to submit letters.
