"Dual Chinese-British national Wai, 38, and retired Hong Kong police superintendent Bill Yuen, 65, are on trial at the Old Bailey on charges under the National Security Act. "Their activities were exposed on May 1 2024 when they allegedly attempted to take hold of a former Hong Kong resident Monica Kwong, from her flat in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. Ms Kwong had left Hong Kong in 2023 with her young son amid accusations of fraud, which she said was a set-up by her influential employer."
Peter Wai, a 38-year-old UK Border Force official and City of London Police special constable, and Bill Yuen, a 65-year-old retired Hong Kong police superintendent, face trial at the Old Bailey under the National Security Act. Wai allegedly accessed Home Office computer systems while off sick to research Monica Kwong, a personal assistant and former Hong Kong resident who fled to West Yorkshire in 2023. The defendants are accused of orchestrating a shadow policing operation targeting Hong Kong dissidents, pro-democracy campaigners, and British politicians on behalf of Chinese authorities. On May 1, 2024, operatives allegedly attempted to gain entry to Kwong's Pontefract flat through deception and force. Secret recordings from April 24 showed a team member claiming to have lost his ID badge to gain access to her home.
