The 2020 awards season proved exceptionally challenging for Andrew Scott, who faced overwhelming pain from a kidney stone while nominated for an award. As he attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards, he experienced agony that forced him to leave the event early. Despite competing against renowned actors, his night was overshadowed by intense discomfort, which he humorously recounted. Fortunately, his nomination was announced early, allowing him to briefly enjoy the occasion before succumbing to pain. Although memorable for the wrong reasons, his experience resonated with the struggles of many during awards season.
Scott described the excruciating moment, saying, 'I was beside Phoebe [Waller-Bridge], and Laura Dern had just won best supporting actress and we were standing up... the pain is so immediate.'
He mentioned the severity of his pain, recalling, 'It got so bad that I had to leave during Dern's speech, writhing around in agony in the back of the room.'
Reflecting on the ceremony's recording, Scott noted, 'At least the video affords us a nice little play by play of the night, although you don't see my world caving in.'
Andrew Scott humorously stated about the awards season, 'Nobody, nobody on Earth, had a worse awards season than I did in 2020.'
